Comfortable Dog

When these blankets started becoming the word on the streets it didn’t take me long to hop on the bandwagon. I am always looking for anxiety relief in any way, shape, or form I can find it and I finally decided to take the plunge with this blanket.

The strangest part about the buying process for me was how the weighted blankets are promoted telling you to use it while you’re sleeping for increased sleep quality.

This is apparently an unpopular opinion, but I really don’t enjoy sleeping with the blanket. I find the weight while I’m sleeping to be restrictive and cause me to feel claustrophobic. For me, it’s comparable to when someone is trying to cuddle me while I’m sleeping when I just want to be left alone and untouched.

The ideal time to use this blanket for me is when I am feeling anxious throughout my day or while I am trying to watch TV. Sure, sometimes I have trouble falling asleep and the blanket is useful for a little while to help calm me down, but it is definitely not something I want on me all night.

This may not be the case for you as I have heard many people tell me how much they LOVE sleeping with this blanket.

Hugging

However, I LOVE using this blanket while I’m awake and trying to RELAX. It truly does give you the feeling that you are being hugged by someone and we all know the health benefits and stress-relieving effects of hugs.

For years, I have known that applying pressure on my chest helps relieve some of my anxiety. I actually learned the relief this brings from an ex-boyfriend who started to apply pressure on my chest with his hand when he could tell I was feeling anxious.

I was astounded by how much that helped me. So when I saw the weighted blankets, I was like “this makes perfect sense, sign me up”.

Naturally, since I can’t just go to the store and pick up a boyfriend willing to apply pressure on my chest at all hours of the day!

I am giving this 4 out of 5 stars because I was really expecting to love using it while I was sleeping and that turned out not to be the case at all. Luckily, I already sleep amazing every night for whatever reason so it wasn’t a huge disappointment.

Likes:

  • Relief of anxiety and promotion of relaxation
  • Feeling of comfort as if someone is physically hugging you
  • Cost is low in comparison to others
  • SO many color options!

Dislikes:

  • Sleeping with it at night is not for me
  • I wish it was in the shape of a robe or vest since I carry my anxiety and stress on my chest and shoulders (JUST GOOGLED THIS AND THEY EXIST, I CAN NOT WAIT TO TRY IT)

If you are looking for some relief and are willing to try anything (like I always am), I would definitely recommend trying a weighted blanket.

I’ve heard about weighted blankets but I’ve never took the time out to research them. After reading this article, I really want one. I’m usually really good about containing my anxiety but stress, pfft, it is practically a daily and it would be nice to just have that to relax me. Great review!

Thanks for this great article. I appreciate your Viewpoint about the weighted blankets. It seems like everyone is going along with the trend so it’s nice to hear that for some people the weighted blankets are not ideal for sleeping. I never tried a weighted blanket for sleeping, the closest I’ve come is putting an extra pillow on top of my legs. One day I want to try it so thanks for the recommendation.

I have actually made some level of research on the weighted blankets and i have found out that they are really very helpful to help cure issues relating to anxiety and pain. You have confirmed this claims so i think i will really get them. I think i need to make my research on those robe like weighte blankets and i will see if it is something i will be interested in as well.

The product I ended up getting goes around the neck and shoulders and down over your chest, which is where I carry my stress and anxiety so I am excited to try it! The next few days can’t go by fast enough! It will be here on the 27th 🙂

I have heard quite a lot about the weighted blankets and how it helps get rid of anxiety. I was super excited when I first came across them but was really disappointed because, because of my location I may have to pay a shipping fee that is twice the price of the blanket and that cost me about 300$ in total so I’m hoping I’ll find it in some local store other wise I hear they are really great and they are not hot either, you can get a cool weighted blanket.

    • Kay

I am sorry to hear about your shipping cost dilemma! Good luck on your search to find one in stores, I am sure it will be worth it!

Wow, i didn’t know that someone shared the same view with me about the weighted blanket. I even think that it is too heavy when i am sleeping and it is on me. I sleep on my belly most times so you can understand it. I started fearing that i might be starting to become claustrophobic. This is a very well written post. I think that it is in time of anxiety that i will understand the real importance of the weighted blanket.

    Interesting post!
I actually did not realize that applying pressure on your chest can cause a significant reduction in how much anxiety you are feeling.
This blanket certain sounds great for day time use to relieve anxiety. But I would not really be into using it at night either because of I would feel claustrophobic as well.
You included a lot of helpful information about this blanket and I will look into this more.
Thank you for the useful information!

Hi Karaabodee. I’ll definitely want to own one of those blankets. I normally experience some pms during my menstrual cycle and feel anxious at times. I ‘ll keep in touch when I’m ready to make a purchase. Thanks for sharing this info.

      Hi Maggie!

I am so thankful not to have that problem during my menstrual cycle, but I know many people who do and have the same feelings. I never would have thought to use this for that as well! Great idea!

  • Cathy

Hello there! It takes some time getting used to, even for me. I am glad you are getting use out of it, and I hope you get to enjoy the robe, as well. 🙂

  • Sue

I’ve never heard about weighted blankets. This is a very interested post about the weighted blanket. I had no idea you can use a blanket for my anxiety. I need to get one for my husband to relax after a hard day off work.

    Hi Kay,

Great review! I can relate to you because I need to be completly free of any restrictions to fall asleep, the thoughts of this Wonder Blanket would suffocate me as I never sleep still.
As someone who suffers with daily anxiety and I feel it in my chest area as many sufferers do, I am very surprised to hear of a trick of pressure being applied to the area can greatly help so I will definetly be roping my boyfriend into doing this!!
But I would 100% consider it as a comfort blanket in the evening as I’m winding down, it sounds perfect for that time of the day!
    Thanks for sharing!
